THE TOWN STATION SITE
The Council plans to build new office accommodation here and move from the Nottingham Road premises

Following the fire at the Nottingham Road offices, Melton Borough Council is planning to rebuild its offices in Burton Street where the Council owns a major part of the so called "Town Station site".   This is the area of land that runs from the station approach up to the Anne of Cleaves.

There are excellent views of St Mary's Parish Church on the approach to the town from the south over the railway bridge.    The Council must ensure that its development proposals meet the same standards that have been demanded of previous developer proposals.   There must be adequate provision of public car parking as well as that for Council staff and visitors.     Traffic movement into and out of the site needs to be managed by the provision of traffic light control if only at peak periods.

The Council intends that the new office block should also offer community facilities and a possibility might be the County Council Library and other officers in the town being relocated to the new building.    No firm proposals have yet been put to the County Council.
